Rochester Consolation Champs

Drew's spring basketball team played in Rochester's annual basketball tournament this weekend earning consolation honors.  They won their first game vs Lakeville North, but lost their second game of the tournament to Wayzata.  The team regrouped after the loss to win their next 3 games (Orono, Rochester John Marshall, Onalaska, WI).  Drew scored a game high 19 points vs John Marshall.   Next week we are off to the Cities for the Grade State Tournament.

Drew's Team Continue on their Winning Ways

Drew's basketball team has had a lot of success this season.  With17 boys on their team it was important to get as much court time as possible for each player.   So the coaches divided the team into 2 squads, going to 2 different tournaments each weekend.  Each tournament a different group of boys played together.   So far they have won 4 tournaments & got 2nd place in 4 tournaments (3 of the championship games losses were lost by 2 or less points).  It has been a very busy winter but it has been a lot of fun.  Drew will also play on a "spring" season squad too.  Here are a few snapshots from the last 3 tournaments.

Twos a Charm

This weekend Drew played in 2 different basketball tournaments.  Due to injuries and family trips planned for the weekend, the team needed a couple more players to fill each tournament roster.  Drew lucked out and got to play in an extra tournament.

On  Saturday, the team won the Pine Island basketball tournament.  Drew made a game winning shot with about 1 second left in the first game of the tournament.  The next two games were not as close...thank goodness.

On Sunday, another group of boys played in the Rochester Lourdes tournament.  They won all three games pretty handily.  It was a fun weekend of basketball.... not much got done at home.  Oh well.. that is what July is for!  Here are a few pics from this weekend.

The Elk Stops Here

Drew competed today in the District "Hoop Shoot" contest at Pacelli High School in Austin.   He  competed against 4 other local champions (Owatonna, Winona, Austin, & Worthington).

It was another nail biter... just like in Rochester.  Drew and Johnny Hernandez from Owatonna each made 17/25 free throws.  They were tied for first place.  Each had to shoot 5 more free throws.  The winner moves on to the state contest in Huntchinson.  The loser... goes home.  Even with approximately 200 people in the stands....you could hear a pin drop.  Hernandez calmly drains all 5 of his bonus free throws.  Now its time for Drew to shoot his 5.  Drew hit his first 4 shots... but missed his 5th.  After he missed his last shot, the crowd cheered loudly for both of the boys.

Drew handled the pressure so well!  We are very proud of him!

Drew insisted on wearing his Detroit Lakes Lakers t-shirt.  Go Lakers!

Andrew's Basketball Season Begins

Its January, so that means it must be travel basketball season.   Drew has 17 players on his team so they divided the team into 2 equal squads.  Drew's team played in Randolph and the other team played in New Richland.  Both teams earned 2nd place in their tournament.  Very talented bunch of boys!  Drew had a lot of fun but he was very exhausted by the end of the day.  He slept all the way home.  Here are a few pics from the day.

Check the Calendar...

It is hard to believe.... the high in Stewartville today (January 10) was 54 degrees! We took advantage of the warm weather to get a jump start on the 2012 baseball season.  Check out a couple of short video clips to remind all of us that the weather truly was a homerun.
